The Large Stepped Pyramid in Natural is 100 blocks of oiled alder wood, in ten graduated lengths from 4cm to 20cm, seated in a frame that doubles as a display. There's no colour stain on these, just the grain of the wood, which means it never dates, never clashes, and never looks like a toy that's been left out. It looks like something that belongs in your home because it does.

A two-year-old lines these up and knocks them down. A five-year-old builds a city. A nine-year-old engineers a ball run that crosses the whole room and argues with you about the physics. Same blocks. Twenty years of use in a single box, and it comes out of that looking better than it went in because unfinished wood, unlike almost everything else you buy for a child, ages well.

The Connetix Rainbow Mega Pack is the other half of the argument. 212 magnetic tiles is the largest set Connetix make. Not a starter set that a child outgrows and you need to supplement later. The full thing is enough to build at a genuine scale, with enough left over that two or three children can build alongside each other without negotiating over pieces.
