Collection: Sarah's Silks

Drawing from the philosophies of Waldorf education and her own childhood of imaginative play, Sarah has been designing playsilks and other natural, eco-friendly wooden and silk toys for over 25 years.

Sarah’s Silks is a family owned company based in California, USA and have been importing sustainably-produced, hand-woven Habotai silks from China.

The silk come from caterpillars that eat mulberry leaves. So the silk farms have to grow lots of trees to produce silk. They are fed by hand on family farms. No pesticides or chemicals are used as the caterpillars and moths are sensitive. The playsilks are hand-hemmed by women in their homes in one village near Suzhou. The dyes that they use are non toxic and environmentally friendly. The end results are playsilks of 5 mm, which is light and airy.

Sarah believes that pretend play is the foundation of creativity and that her silks inspire children to express themselves with their imagination and develop through play.

Silk Care: Hand wash with mild dish soap or shampoo, hang dry and medium iron if you want to restore the shine. Kids enjoy the feel of wet silk, it's a nice chore for them to wash and hang the playsilk to dry.
