A Nin has no face, no name, no story. It is a small wooden person waiting to be told who it is.

And what children do with them is remarkable. They stack a coin on a ring on a Nin and build a tower. They give the Nins hats. They give them boats. They sort them into colour families, then into new ones. They line them up in rows, count them, hide them, arrange them into circles and spirals for reasons they cannot explain and don't need to.

The Nest Rings are the piece that turns arranging into engineering. Six graduated wooden rings that stack, nest, tumble, and balance, but they also become bowls to hold the coins, arenas for the Nins to stand inside, wheels, portals, roofs, and ripples in a pond. They give the loose parts somewhere to go and give the play structure.

Why together?

Because loose parts on their own can overwhelm a child. Loose parts with something to organise them into become irresistible.
